SynopsisThis bill retroactively exempted all government employees from being prohibited persons due to a domestic violence conviction. AnalysisIf someone such as a police officer is convicted of domestic violence, he still becomes prohibited from possessing a firearm. On one hand, this person probably looses his job. On the other hand, is this the kind of person we want on the police force? Probably not. The flip side is this: If the domestic violence clause should not apply to government employees, why should it apply to anyone? As harsh, and probably inappropriate as the domestic violence clause may be, the law should apply to everyone equally or be removed for everyone.
