Synopsis

This bill is the House version of a Senate bill addressing gun shows. At this point, I can not figure out which one, or possibly all three.

Analysis

This bill came along during a period when a lot of legislation was being introduced to address the 'gun show loophole'. Most of the bills had serious issues, especially related to what constituted a 'gun show'. This bill was introduced as a moderate compromise. It is a long bill and it is a mixed bag, at best.

  • The Violence Policy Center published their issues here.
  • John Conyers published his issues here.

The amount of whining would indicate that there are good things included for gun owners. But most of the whining was about how the bill was not strict enough.

In the end, no matter the goodness, private sales are private sales and do not need government intervention. This was a bad bill.

Do not be fooled by gun banners voting against this bill. They voted as they did because they were not satisfied the bill went far enough.
