SynopsisThe bill attempted to criminalize running websites for purposes of selling guns.
AnalysisAll commercial sales of firearms are regulated and require a Federal Firearms License already, independent of the communications medium. Interstate transfer of firearms requires an FFL to FFL transaction. Only private transfers inside the same state can be performed without an FFL. This was an attempt to criminalize communication.
This was more 'feel good' legislation that would have had no practical effect, if passed. Fortunately the Senate saw it for what it was and wasted little time on it. Proposed to tabled in less than 24 hours.
