SynopsisAllows current and retired police to carry concealed weapons with less regard to state or local law by preempting some state and local laws.
AnalysisWhile not everything we could want, we can call it a step in the right direction.
InterpretationFirst, understand that HR218 does not impact existing federal law. There is no change in law relative to national park carry, military installation carry, post office carry or carry any where else that is regulated by federal law.
The US Department of Justice published a memorandum on HR218.
The Grand Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police has published a FAQ.
Expect the Attorney General of each state to issue an opinion on how their state will interpret and comply with HR218.
