SynopsisAccording to Sen. Craig: "The Frist-Craig amendment restates existing law which prohibits the manufacture, import, or sale of armor piercing ammunition except for use by the United States Government or for export. Additionally, the Frist-Craig amendment requires the Department of Justice to study and report to Congress whether a uniform standard for the testing of projectiles against body armor is feasible. "
AnalysisThis bill was fundamentally different from the Kennedy 'Armor Piercing Ammo Ban' in that it did not attempt to redefine 'armor piercing ammo'. It also did not place the power to ban ammunition in the hands of a political appointee. It only mandated a feasibility study of testing ammunition.
