Details- Sponsor - Lautenberg
- Proposed - February 27, 2004
- Congressional Record Link - SA2632
- Amends - SB1805
- Amendments - None.
- Vote - March 2, 2004, Amendment withdrawn.
- Results - No change in law.
SynopsisAccording to Sen. Lautenberg: "It says if a terrorist buys a gun, law enforcement must be notified promptly that this transaction has taken place. The FBI, local police, and the regional terrorist task force must be told the time and place of the purchase."
AnalysisA convicted terrorist would not be able to buy a firearm by the Gun Control Act of 1968. Anyone else, including persons on a terrorist watch list, would not have been convicted. This bill sets up a registry of gun owners that are on a watch list, without due process of law.
Independent of anything else, I can not find any discussion of this amendment, except by Sen. Lautenberg. No reason for withdrawal has been found.
