So, after 30 years, Marion "The bitch set me up" Barry wants to suspend the DC gun ban and allow residents to buy and register handguns for 90 days.

First, lets look at 'buy'. There are no gun stores in D.C. Zero, zilch, nada. Given that the Gun Control Act of 1968 prevents D.C. residents from buying handguns in Maryland or Virginia, their only option is to buy a gun on the streets. This is probably not a recommended procedure.

Second, they can register guns they already have. These would be guns they picked up illegally over the last 30 years or ones they inheritted and brought into the district illegally.

Law abiding citizens do not have a handgun and have no source for a handgun.

So, this idea is truly a reward to those who have chosen to break the law and to no one else.

Having spent 35 years in the D.C. area, I always had the impression that Barry was running on about 20 watts - not the brightest bulb in the pack. My suspicion is that Marion has sourced a gun for himself and just wants to be able to register it. Unfortunately, he is probably a prohibitted person due to his criminal convictions.

But who knows. Maybe he has arranged for his convictions to be expunged or not forwarded to the NICS system.
