After reading more legislation that I thought I ever would, I have come to the following conclusion. If you ever see: This is commonsense gun legislation we can all agree on. This bill will save lives while not infringing on anybody's second amendment rights. If you ever see:

a red flag should go up. If this needs to be said, it is just not true. Somebody is trying to sell the Brooklyn Bridge. Any appropriate gun control measure will never need to have this said about it. My guess is that such words have never been said by a Marilyn Musgrave or Ron Paul. 'Nuf said.

- Thus far only H.R. 800 has received any attention from the House side. It is expected to come before the full House in the next month.
- The Senate side of Congress is busy dealing with judicial nominees.
At the state level, there has been a great deal going on. Minnesota has passed another concealed carry law. Illinois has had a slew of legislative activity in the gun control arena. We would encourage everyone to use the Forums section to post state and local activities. Write Comment (0 Comments) |

The Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act was passed out of the House Judiciary Committee this AM. A number of amendments were proposed to punch loopholes in the bill. Despite the number of amendments being proposed, only one passed and it was of a grammatical nature. The bill is still intact. The amendments proposed ranged from a domestic violence exclusion to informing dealers that a buyer was on a terrorist watch list thereby providing civil liability. House Bill 1195 is already introduced to criminalize transfers to those on the watch list. So, if the gun grabbers can not get a bill passed to criminalize transfers to people on the terrorist watch, they just wanted to make the sellers responsible. Expect similar attempts before the bill is voted on in the full House. Write Comment (0 Comments) |

Senate Bill 1082 is the companion bill to House Bill 1288. On its date of introduction it had 30 cosponsors. The word is that the wording will be identical to House Bill 1288, which should simplify the process if both get passed by their respective bodies. It is being sponsored by Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cronyn of Texas and George Allen of Virginia. More information as it becomes available.Write Comment (0 Comments) |
