SynopsisThe bill prevented federal funds from being used in connection with exports of .50 BMG rifles to nongovernmental entities.
AnalysisThe export of firearms is licensed by the federal government. Nonautomatic and semiautomatic .50 BMG rifles would not be exportable under this law. There is no mention of full-auto firearms.
This is an attempt to make the business less desirable and thereby dry up the available of these firearms within the US.
This amendment was Moran's second attempt this session to go after .50 BMG rifles. Check out House Bill 654.
TextTITLE VIII--ADDITIONAL GENERAL PROVISIONS
LIMITATION ON USE OF FUNDS TO LICENSE EXPORT OF CENTERFIRE 50 CALIBER RIFLES
SEC. 801. None of the funds made available in this Act may be used to pay administrative expenses or compensate an officer or employee of the United States in connection with licensing the export of a nonautomatic or semiautomatic rifle capable of firing a center-fire cartridge in 50 caliber, .50 BMG caliber, any other variant of 50 caliber, or any metric equivalent of such calibers, to any nongovernmental entity.
