SynopsisThis amendment was proposed to an appropriations bill which funded DC government, amongst other things. The amendment prohibits "use of funds in the bill to enforce section 702 of the Firearms Control Regulations Act of 1975."
Section 702 of the Firearms Control Regulations Act of 1975 (sec. 7-2507.02, D.C. Official Code):
7-2507.02. Firearms required to be unloaded and disassembled or locked. Except for law enforcement personnel described in Section 7-2502.01(b)(1), each registrant shall keep any firearm in his possession unloaded and disassembled or bound by a trigger lock or similar device unless such firearm is kept at his place of business, or while being used for lawful recreational purposes within the District of Columbia.
AnalysisSection 702 of the Firearms Control Regulations Act of 1975 only addresses the storage of firearms in the home.
HR1288 is a much more complete bill moving towards restore the Second Amendment rights of Washington, DC residents, but this is certainly a step in the right direction.
