January 17, 2005 - Once in a great while, you meet someone special. Someone who treats you like an old friend from the minute you shake their hand. Neal Knox was one of those people.
I only knew him a short time. We spoke on the phone a few times. We traded a few emails. That was all. We never met in person. He became someone I shall never forget.
In 2003 I was running a different political website. One day, out of the blue, came an email. "Like your site. Call me." At the end was a name I had known for years along with his home phone number. At the other end of the phone was an attitude you rarely find today. It was encouraging, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. It was obvious that this man had forgotten more about guns and gun control that I will ever know. And for Neal it was all about the mission. His concern was not about who you were, or what he would get out of it. It was all about the good of the country. Despite being sick, he put effort into my site and it got the kind of contribution you could not pay for. He asked for nothing in return. That is just the way Neal was.
To my new, old friend Neal Knox goodbye. You are already missed.
