In Colorado there is no sales tax on daily newspaper sales. I have not found the documentation, but I have been told that this has its roots in the First Amendment. The 24th amendment to the Constitution ended poll taxes as they prevented people from exercising their right to vote.
This begs the questions:
- Should the exercise of any constitutional right be a taxable event?
- Shouldn't the same standard apply to firearm ownership?
