- Proposed - July 28, 2005
- Congressional Record Link - SA1633
- Amends - S.397
- Amendments - None.
- Vote - Amendment did not reach Senate floor.
- Results - No change in law.
SynopsisThe entire amendment is as follows: On page 10, between lines 2 and 3, insert the following:
``(iv) an action brought in any case in which the product, whether imported or manufactured domestically, failed to meet the most effective safety standards established for imported handguns, as determined by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives;''.
AnalysisThis amendment allows law suits to continue/be brought if the product did not meet the safety standards as defined by the BATFE.
This is a train wreck of a bill. Would the BATFE develop different standards for military vs. civilian consumers? At no time should any government agency or appointee be in the business of developing any kind of firearm standards, except for military requirements. To do anything else opens up our Second Amendment rights to the whims and desires of political appointees who may wish to end the Second Amendment.
