SynopsisSA1638 defines:
- 'gunshow'.
- 'special firearms event licensee' as a person who holds a license to run 'gun shows' and run NICS checks for 'special firearms event vendors'.
- 'special firearms event vendor' .
- the responsibilities of the licensee and vendors at the show.
It also increases the penalties for record keeping violations by FFL holders.
AnalysisThe concept of a gunshow loophold is the creation of the gun control lobby. If the sellers at a gun show were actually dealers, they would already be required to have a Federal Firearms License.
Studies show that gun shows do not contribute to the supply of guns in criminal circles. And regulating private transfers of firearms is not an appropriate place for legislation.
