Gun Law News has evolved into a site that is a little more complicated than most. So, let us try to explain how information is organized. Let me start by saying that whenever you see text in this color, except here, it is a link to another page.
The function of the site is to document the records of individuals for and against our Second Amendment rights. That goal drives the three primary page types on the site. They are:
Under 'Reference'Above this box you will find the masthead which contains links into the primary records.
Congress PagesThe Congress pages comprise a list of all of the bills and amendments that were proposed during that House / Senate period. The volume of bills has forced a seperate page for the House and Senate. If you don't see a link to or an entry for a bill that you know of, we have not gotten to it yet or may not have found it. Feel free to shoot us a note via Feedback.
Bill PagesThere is a seperate page for each bill / amendment proposed. This work has been killing us. Our first priority is to keep up with activity in the current session. When that is up to date, we work on the historical pages.
The top of the bill page contains information significant to the bill, including a link to the Congressional Record page for this bill. From there you can get directly to the summary, text and activities of the House/Senate on the bill. We also link to every vote related to this bill. These pages also contain our synopsis and an analysis of the bill presented. If you do not believe our work on the bill, feel free to check it out yourself by going to the Congressional Record link in the first section. Again, Feedback is appreciated.
Person PagesNow you are into the heart of this site.
I do not expect to document every Senator and every Representative; there are over 500 of them. But we are going to go after every person that makes a significant contribution for / against our cause.
Each person documented as follows:
- Some preliminary information at the top, such as when they were first elected, etc.
- Their lobby ratings. Not every organization has a current set of ratings. We will fill these in as we find them.
- Legislation sponsored. We call these bills out specifically because they show a passion for the subject involved.
- Votes placed by this person. The bill pages drive the information in this section. If no votes occurred on a bill, you will not find it listed here unless this person was a sponsor or cosponsor.
- And finally, any other information we may have on the person.
If we miss something, if we make a mistake (we will) or if we have not documented someone you believe we should, shoot us some Feedback.
Under 'Main Menu'There you will find links to other places on the site. They are:
- Welcome - This is a page written to welcome newcomers and explain some of what goes on around here. It does not have the detail this pages.
- Forums - The forums are a place where you can express yourself. We have categories setup for a wide variety of subjects and have a by-state breakdown where you can put information specific to where you live.
- Links - Containers pointers to various sites and organizations with varying stands on the Second Amendment.
- Signup for Mail Alerts - Allows you to be put on the site mail list. Mailings are rare and the addresses will never be used for commercial purposes.
- Search - This facility allows you to search the site for information important to you.
- Contact Us - This page allows you to communicate with us emails easily without going through the Forum. You don't need a mail client and anonymity is guaranteed.
- News Feeds - This page is an easy to read listing of the NRA-ILA RSS news feed. If you don't know what that means, don't worry. Go check it out.
Below that you will find links to pages of a historical nature. Check these out if you want to get a sense of where gun control was in the past.
User ContributionsUsers are encouraged to contribute their input into the site. Without registering, you can rate articles. With a single user registration and login, you are able to comment on articles, suggest new links and create forum entries. The long term success of the site will be determined by how involved everyone becomes. Consider how you can make your presence felt. Finally The best thing you could say about this site is that it helped you be effective in the fight for our rights. We hope you found that to be so.
Feel free to shoot us Feedback whenever you wish.
